Why do so many people quote movies ALL the time whenever they have a conversation?

Am I the only one that generates thoughts of my own for use of discourse? I know at least a dozen people that try to be funny by using lines from movies ALL the time. Are these people just empty? Are they too afraid to share their own personality? Is this the result of an impressionable person watching too much television? Where is the individuality? THAT's what I want to know... Has anyone made this observation? Does it irritate you, too?
